A Jackson teacher has been killed and six others hurt when a school van overturned on U-S Highway 49 near Mendenhall, according to authorities.
All seven people in the van were employees of Jackson's Walton Elementary School. They were going to conference in Biloxi when the accident occurred Monday.
Simpson County Coroner Bobby Williams says the 15-seat van apparently blew a tire.
Mendenhall Deputy Police Chief Bruce Barlow identified the teacher killed in the accident as Connie Little Harrell of Jackson.
Jackson school officials say Harrell went to work at Walton in 1998 as a first-grade teacher.
Jackson school officials say the names of the other passengers would not be released until family members gave their permission.
Of the six survivors, school officials say four initially were taken to Simpson General Hospital, and three were treated and released. One was moved to the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson.
The two other passengers were taken to Magee General Hospital. One was treated and released, while the other was kept overnight for observation.
