Claiborne County jury deadlocks in Carl Brandon murder trial

A former Claiborne County employee being tried for murder in Hattiesburg will have to be re-tried after a jury was unable to reach a verdict this afternoon.  But, former county road manager Carl Brandon was found guilty of two counts of aggrivated assault and one count of shooting into an occupied dwelling.

Judge Frank Vollor declared a mistrial after a Claiborne County jury deadlocked on murder charges.  Brandon was accused of allegedly going on a shooting rampage last year that left county attorney Allen Burrell dead and another woman wounded.  Defense attorneys claimed Brandon was insane at the time of the shooting.

Judge Vollor has not set a date for sentencing, but has set a June 11th date for a new murder trial.
