This Memorial Day, boaters, fishermen, and those just out for some fun in the sun spent their holiday at Lake Bogue Homa, located east of Laurel. The lake will close Tuesday for repairs and to restock it's fish supply. For many who use the lake, Memorial Day marked an unofficial good-bye, for now.
Lake Bogue Homa is a 1200-acre lake located just outside of Laurel. After Monday, this 70-year-old body of water will be drained so an earthen dam on the north end of the lake so an earthen dam can be rebuilt.
"It needs to be done. This lake has been here a while and some repairs and updates will be good for it," says Kerry Hill, a long-time lake-goer.
Other lake improvement plans include basin work, and restocking the fish once the lake is refilled. But it may be more than two years before people can fish on the lake again.
