Close to a thousand residents in Lamar County are set to save hundreds of dollars on their insurance because two fire departments have received better fire ratings.
The Hickory Grove and Sumrall districts received ratings of 8, down from a rating of 10 a year ago. These lower ratings mean a 40 percent reduction in home owner insurance.
Officials say they are working to bring the fire ratings down on other districts in Lamar County.
