Officer injured in inmate attack at Jones jail

A Jones County correctional officer was injured when he was attacked by some inmates at the Jones County Jail earlier this evening.  Sheriff Larry Dykes tells us the officer was making his rounds to collect food trays after supper when at least two inmates escaped from their cells and fought with him.

Other officers responded and put the inmates back inside the cells.  Dykes says the officer was taken to the hospital with a leg injury.  He says the inmates were not hurt.

He also says charges will be filed against those who attacked the officer.
