A Jeff Davis County man who was born before the age of flight is celebrating his birthday this week. Clarence King of Bassfield will turn 104-years-old tomorrow.
Today, hundreds of friends and family turned out for this community birthday party at his farm in Bassfield. King, who was born seven months before the Wright Brothers first flew at Kittyhawk, has spent his life farming in the area. For a time, he also drove a truck to deliver ice to local residents.
King was one of 8 children and has 3 children of his own, along with 8 grand children, 12 great grand children and 3 great, great grand children.
He's told family members that the greatest invention in his lifetime was the automobile, because it made the world a smaller place.
