Nettleton's PeopLoungers files for bankruptcy protection

An upholstered motion furniture manufacturer in Nettleton has filed Chapter 11 bankruptcy
protection citing debts of $5.7 million dollars.

PeopLoungers filed the bankruptcy petition Tuesday in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Aberdeen.

PeopLoungers, which helped pioneer the motion furniture industry, has about 425 employees at its Nettleton facility. It also maintains showrooms at the Tupelo Furniture Market and in High Point, North Carolina.

PeopLoungers president and chairman, Jimmy Green, who bought the company in 1997, said Wednesday that the company has received "debtor in possession" financing that will allow it to continue to operate.
