A skull has been found on the grounds of the Vicksburg National Military Park. The park's chief of operations, Rick Martin, says the bones were found Monday in a heavily wooded area between railroad tracks and the Texas Memorial on the South Loop of the park. He says the bones were not from the Civil War, but they've been there a while. Martin says he had been looking into recent vandalism at the park when he made the discovery. He says the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation, Vicksburg police and the Warren County Sheriff's Department are assisting in the investigation.

Just after midnight on July 21, the Mississippi Highway Patrol responded to a fatality on Hwy 53 in Pearl River County. Four people were pronounced dead at the scene. According to authorities, a 2015 Chevrolet Sonic was traveling north of Highway 53 when it crossed the center line and crashed head on with a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado driving in the southbound lane. Around 8 p.m., emergency crews responded to a reignited house fire on Hwy. 11 in Lamar County. Fire investigator, George Stephens, says the initial fire happened before 3 a.m. on July 21. When crews arrived on scene, the home was fully engulfed in flames. No one was at home at the time of the fire. Stephens says the family was thankful to be away when the fire sparked.
