Purvis falls to Nettleton in title game

Jackson, Miss. - The Purvis Tornadoes had hoped winning game one of their Class 3A state baseball championship series would give Tony Farlow's team enough momentum to win another state title.  However, Nettleton had something else in mind.  The Tigers beat Purvis in game two Monday night and in less than 24 hours, beat the South State champs again.  However this time winners took all.   Nettleton beat Purvis 9 to 6 for the class 3A crown.

Purvis trailed 4 to 1 after Nettleton batted around in the second inning.    But Purvis responds with five runs in the third, helped by three Nettleton errors.   Purvis led 6 to 4 heading into the sixth.   Nettleton earns the title however by scoring five runs in the bottom of the inning, two of those coming on a triple with one out.

Nettleton beats Purvis to earn the state title, one that got eluded the school in football this season.   Franklin County beat Nettleton in the state football championship game last December and many  on that  team was on the  2007 baseball squad.      Purvis ends an incredible run at their third title in four years at 21 and 13.
