Sudden death of Shelby soldier probed

An autopsy shows that a Kentucky national guardsman who died over the weekend while training at Camp Shelby was the victim of sudden cardiac death.

Coroner Butch Benedict says 33-year-old Atta P. Okyere of Louisville suffered from hypertensive heart disease and coronary artery disease.

Okyere was found face-down in a field Saturday afternoon after he failed to return after a training exercise.

Camp Shelby officials say the soldier was a student at the post's Regional Training Institute and not part of a mobilized unit.
