USM gears up for $20m science lab project

A groundbreaking is scheduled Monday for a $20 million National Formulation Science Laboratory at the University of Southern Mississippi.

Hattiesburg Mayor Johnny DuPree and U.S. Sen. Thad Cochran will join other leaders for the 10:30am event.

University of Southern Mississippi spokeswoman Jana Bryant says construction of the lab will start this summer and is expected to take about 18 months.

The science lab will be the first building at USM's 521-acre Innovation and Commercialization Park funded by local, state and federal funds.

It will provide space for high-tech companies relocating to south Mississippi.
