Hattiesburg's Festival of Swans public sculpture project is about to take flight.
Today, the first two dozen metal and fiberglass swan sculptures that will be displayed around the Hub City for several months arrived at the Lake Terrace Convention Center. They were picked up by individual sponsors, who will hand them over to artists. They will then paint them to represent various themes.
The swans were made in Valencia, Spain and were first delivered to the Port of New Orleans.
"After a period of display here on the grounds of the Lake Terrace Convention Center, they will then be placed permanently at the locations that the sponsors have chosen to place their painted and decorated swan sculptures throughout the greater Hattiesburg area," said Jack Kyle, Director of Cultural Development for the Area Development Partnership.
