After two years of construction, the restoration of the Hattiesburg Train Depot is coming to an end. The $10 million project is almost completed and plans are in the making for the grand opening in April.
The depot has been restored to its original splendor with over 300 feet of canopy space, meticulously designed on the inside and out and a completely restored gold fish fountain.
According to Hattiesburg city spokesperson John Brown, the facility will not only be a fully functioning train depot, but will also be available to the community for events like weddings, family reunions, and meetings.
A Grand Gala is planned for Friday April 20, with the ribbon-cutting to follow the next day.
