The holdup continues on a seven-mile stretch of highway set to connect Petal to Interstate 59.
Southern District Transportation Commissioner Wayne Brown tells 7 ON YOUR SIDE that phase two of the Evelyn Gandy Parkway — from Highway 11 to the Petal Wal-Mart — should open sometime in March.
Phase one — from I-59 to Highway 11 — opened last November.
The project, involving years of planning and millions of dollars, is designed to improve traffic flow in Petal while connecting the city to parts of Forrest County and West Hattiesburg.
News 7 began reporting on the Gandy project in late 2001, and more than five years later, it still remains unfinished.
