The University of Southern Mississippi is looking at using advanced technology to open up business opportunities. Dr. Joseph Desimone a professor of chemistry at the University of North Carolina addressed faculty and students about the importance of using their scientific breakthroughs for entrepreneurship. He has received awards for his ventures into business, including Liquidia technologies which produces nano products for the life sciences sector. He says the trend for many businesses is to look at colleges and universities for emerging technologies. Desimone also stressed the need for colleges and universities to enter into entrepreneurial ventures on their own.

Firefighters battled a large blaze after a Laurel apartment building caught fire on Tuesday evening. According to Jones County Fire Rescue, multiple departments responded to a fire at the Laurel North Apartments.
