Pickering: count me in auditor's race

State Sen. Stacey Pickering says he will run for state auditor.

Pickering, a Republican from Soso in Jones County, is in his first term in the Mississippi Senate and serves as chairman of the Senate Local and Private Committee.

The 38-year-old Pickering also works in public affairs and marketing.

No one has qualified in the Democratic or Republican primary as a state auditor candidate, according to the parties' websites. The qualifying deadline is March 1.

The current state auditor, Phil Bryant, is running for lieutenant governor.

Bryant, who has been state auditor since 1996, faces state Senator Charlie Ross of Brandon in the Republican primary.
