Pro-tax group: 'Save Lives, Save Money'

A campaign designed to gather support for a proposed one dollar cigarette tax increase came to Hattiesburg today.

The effort is called "Save Lives, Save Money." Dream of Hattiesburg, a group that focuses on substance abuse prevention, and Communities for a Clean Bill of Health sponsored the forum.

Topics speakers touched on included the prevalence of smoking in Mississippi and the potential health and economic impacts a one dollar cigarette tax would yield in Mississippi.

Currently, the cigarette tax in Mississippi is 18 cents a pack.
