Cities, counties still await Katrina dollars

Local governments in the Pine Belt are still trying to collect millions of dollars from FEMA and MEMA.

Almost a year and half after Katrina, federal and state emergency management agencies have given the Hub City about $3.6 million, but city officials say they are still owed an additional $3.8 million.

Lamar County says it has received about $750,000, but is still owed a little over a million.  Forrest County says it has collected just over $700,000 but still expects another $215,000.

Supervisors president Billy Hudson says officials are confident the money will come through.
