Phil Bryant Completing Audit of Education Department

The new year could begin with a new legislative plan to fully-fund education in Mississippi.

And the State Auditor says his office is working hard on figures from the Department of Education to make sure lawmakers have the accurate numbers they need in order to fund the Mississippi Adequate Education Program.

"Part of our job as State Auditor is to audit those figures from the Department of Education to make sure we're accurate in the numbers we're talking about, said State Auditor Phil Bryant.

"We're about 60 million dollars now away from the Governor's budget and that of the House of Representatives.

That's closer than it sounds.

I'm hopeful that they're going to be able to come together and reach a consensus and this year, we'll fully fund the M.A.E.P. formula.

We're working hard, I know the governor is to get there," Bryant said in Picayune on Friday as he attended a farewell reception for retiring 15th Circuit Court District D.A. Buddy McDonald.
