LPD charges teen in shopper stickups

Laurel police have been working around to the clock to make sure residents are able to finish their last-minute Christmas shopping safely.

Police have questioned seven young men in the last three days in connection with the nighttime armed robberies of several women at Sawmill Square Mall. Now one arrest has been made and police say more are coming.

Ira Hardley, 15, has been charged as an adult with armed robbery. Deputy Chief Tyrone Stewart says regardless of age, all felony crimes are treated the same.

"We are not going to sit back and let thugs run over and take these streets and do what they want to," he says. "It's not going to happen."
