Hunt for body may end 12-year mystery

Authorities are searching for the body of a Smith County woman who's been missing for 12 years.

The search began Monday morning at a piece of property in Covington County on Highway 49 about two miles south of Mount Olive.

Officials say the Smith County native went missing back in 1994 about six or eight weeks after moving to Ohio.  Months of intense investigation lead authorities to believe the woman's body is located on the Covington County property.

Sheriff's departments from Smith and Covington counties are conducting the search.

Officials won't release the name of the victim or possible suspects, but they do say the property owner is not a suspect.
