Laurel donation honors 9/11 heroes

Laurel police and fire departments received a gift of thanks Monday.

The manager of Fred's department store donated $450 to the police and fire departments. Since 9/11 Fred's has been donating its profits for each September 11 to public safety, as a way of honoring the police and firefighters killed on duty that day.

Police Chief Walter Martin says his department is grateful for the gift.

Fred's stores across the country have done this for the last four years.
