Contractor charged in Katrina swindle

Forrest County authorities have issued a bench warrant for the arrest of a business owner accused of false pretense. His whereabouts are unknown.

Authorities say a warrant has been issued for Tri-State Roofing contractor Jerry Scott. The warrant accuses Scott of false pretense in Hurricane Katrina-related home repairs.

Last December, News 7 interviewed two homeowners who hired Scott to repair their storm-damaged homes. They accused Scott of trying to make money off their insurance by intentionally damaging their property to inflate the estimates.

In addition to the warrant, authorities say Scott had already been cited by the city of Hattiesburg but failed to make his court appearance.
