Travel biz still raking in Katrina bucks

The Hattiesburg Tourism Commission says the market in the Hub City is still booming after Katrina.

About 50 tourism leaders and members of the local hospitality industry attended the 5th annual tourism summit at Lake Terrace Convention Center. They discussed plans for promoting Hattiesburg and its businesses in the upcoming year.

Officials say tourism is growing partly due to Hurricane Katrina.

Director Rick Taylor says the past year has seen a $21 million increase in tourism, up to $171 million pumped into the local economy, and he expects that momentum will continue.
