Costly truck means cheaper insurance

Good news for some Lamar County homeowners: your insurance rates could soon go down.

Fire departments in Lamar County received the first of five new tankers Tuesday. The new truck is rated to pump up to 650 gallons of water per minute.

That's good for people in Hickory Grove, Sumrall, and Rocky Branch, whose fire rating should fall from 10 to 8 by early January, officials say. That could mean reductions in insurance rates.

The fire truck cost about $182,000.
