The number of West Nile cases in the state reached 165 this week, as six more cases of the virus were reported.
The State Department of Health has confirmed the latest reported cases of the mosquito-transmitted disease included two in Forrest County, and one each in Jones, Lauderdale, Walthall, and Wayne Counties. There has also been one new death blamed on West Nile in Desoto County, bringing the state's total number of deaths to seven.
The Department of Health says even though the West Nile Peak Season is over, it it still important to protect yourself from mosquito bites.
