Man Arrested for Aggravated Assault Now Charged with Murder

A Hattiesburg man who's been in jail on aggrivated assault charges for two months will now face murder charges. 

That's because the victim he allegedly shot in August died on Saturday. 

28-year-old Christopher Smith is accused of shooting 58-year-old John Bridges once in the abdomen back on August 20th. 

Smith was arrested and charged with aggrivated assault and has been in the Forrest County Jail ever since. 

His charges have now been upgraded to murder. 

Bridges had been recovering at Forrest General Hospital but he died yesterday afternoon of complications from that wound. 

The Forrest County Coroner's Office says an autopsy should be performed tormorrow to confirm the cause of death.

    After losing the first two games of the season by a combined five points, Collins has won 12 consecutive games to advance to the class 2A South State title. The Tigers (12-2) defeated Bay Springs 22-8 on Friday to advance to a south state matchup against Taylorsville (13-1). Collins scored twice in the fourth quarter to overcome the Bulldogs on the road. "I feel great," said Collins head coach Eric Booth, a former USM running back.
