Hub seeks to expel crime from schools

The city of Hattiesburg and the Hattiesburg school district have take a first step in fighting school crime.
Over 20 officials representing law enforcement, the city and the school district met Wednesday to discuss school violence and prevention. One main focus was gangs. Recent gang activity, including drive-by shootings, has put officials on edge.

"We've had a couple of fights last year, the students alluded to this group or that group," says Superintendent Annie Wimbish. "We couldn't confirm it was gang-related. We do see our students trying to dress the part. The color codes. The symbols. We are seeing an emergence of the idea of gangs."

Another meeting will take place for private schools later this month.
