19th Pecan Festival Underway in Richton

An estimated 10,000 people are visiting the Town of Richton this weekend for an old-fashioned, family-oriented good time.

The 19th Annual Mississippi Pecan Festival is bringing in folks from all over the region, for bluegrass and gospel music, arts and crafts and lots of good food.

The event takes place in a pecan orchard, but it didn't take place at all last year, because of Hurricane Katrina.

And despite that storm, organizers say much of their pecan crop this year is in pretty good shape.

The Mississippi Pecan Festival began with about 200 visitors in 1987.  It wraps up tomorrow afternoon.
