Police keeping quiet on H'burg slaying

A homicide took place overnight, off the Avenues in Hattiesburg, not far from Kamper Park. From looking at the scene of the crime the victim appears to have made a run for his life.

But Hattiesburg police are not offering any details.

It happened at 1815 Brooke Lane Drive, about 1:40 a.m. An unidentified male was shot once in the chest.

One neighbor says he was awake, heard multiple gunshots and quickly called the police. While he was on the phone with dispatch, he claims he saw a white vehicle speed away.

Hattiesburg police will not comment on the white vehicle. They have declined on-camera interviews and will not say if they have any suspects. However they will say that they believe this is not a random murder.

While the south Avenues are considered a relatively safe part of town, neighbors say the home of the victim often had a lot of people in and out. And domestic arguments were often heard late at night.

Victim survives second overnight shooting

Also overnight in Hattiesburg, a victim was shot in the right leg and toe. That incident took place on the 300 block of Unetta Street in east Hattiesburg at approximately 4:30 a.m. HPD  says no arrests have been made, and the case is still being investigated. Authorities say the gunshots to the victim are not life-threatening.
