HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - The University of Southern Mississippi hosted its 18th annual Law Enforcement Appreciation Breakfast at the Trent Lott Center Wednesday morning.
Law enforcement officials from the Hattiesburg Police Department, Petal Police Department, the Mississippi Highway Patrol and several others were invited to campus.
University officials and the University Police Department said the breakfast is meant to show support to their surrounding agencies as they work together to keep the campus and community safe.
"It's important for us as a police department and university to partner with the community and other law enforcement agencies," said UPD Assistant Chief of Police Rusty Keyes. "We can't do our job without them, and we got to be together in partnership to make our university safe."
Keyes said the bond between law enforcement is like a brotherhood and it means a lot to him that he can call on the other departments for assistance whenever needed.
"We support each other and we back each other up," said Keyes. "So, it's really a bond that's always been there and always will be there and we're proud of that."
