HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -
The National Weather Service is teaming up with local emergency managers to host a major town hall meeting on severe weather.
And you are invited.
A meeting on storm preparedness is scheduled for October 23 at the Forrest County Community Shelter.
It will include different types of life-saving information.
Thursday afternoon, emergency management officials and National Weather Service meteorologists met to go over plans for the event.
"What we want to do is help the public be more prepared when the next storm happens, so that we can help save lives and that we can help save properties," said Bill Parker, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Jackson.
"This is the first time that the Weather Service and us have partnered together," said Glen Moore, director of Forrest County Emergency Management. "The two tornadoes that hit Lamar, Forrest and Perry has really highlighted the need for this."
The town hall will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. on October 23.
