Suspect in Bassfield shooting turns himself in

BASSFIELD, MS (WDAM) - A man wanted by the Jefferson Davis County Sheriff's Department for a Bassfield shooting turned himself in on Thursday afternoon.

Malcolm Loftin is a suspect in the July 31 shooting of Patrick Leggett, according to Major John Wayne Tolar with the Jefferson Davis County Sheriff's Department. Tolar said they believe Loftin shot Leggett multiple times on Stubbs Road around 8 p.m.

Loftin faces charges of aggravated assault.

Leggett was transported to Forrest General Hospital in Hattiesburg where he underwent surgery. He was listed as stable, according to Tolar.
