PINE BELT (WDAM) -
He's a veteran on a mission. Tony Price is riding through 48 states and scheduled to visit the homes of 100 Gold Star families.
"I'm trying to raise awareness because there are so many people who don't know what a Gold Star family is," Price said.
Price is a Minnesota veteran that served in the U.S. Navy. He is now implementing the Gold Star Ride Foundation's mission to honor and support Gold Star families across the nation. These are families who have lost loved ones who made the ultimate sacrifice in the military.
"Every time someone in the military is killed, it leaves a huge hole in the immediate family," Price said. "But not only does it leave a huge hole in your immediate family, it leaves a huge debt that the rest of the citizens of the United States owe."
Price started in Minnesota and will end the ride nearly 20,000 miles later back in Minnesota. He will cover 48 states in 52 days. As he rides through the Pine Belt to his next stop, he continues his journey paying his respects and condolences to Gold Star families.
"This is why it's important. We owe something to these families," Price said.
Peace is what he hopes to bring to families across our nation. Price is one of the co-founders behind the non-profit Gold Star Ride Foundation, which started three years ago.
