Collins fire chief begins 4th term as head of state fire association

COLLINS, MS (WDAM) - The chief of the Collins Fire Department is beginning his fourth consecutive term as head of the Mississippi Firefighters Association.

John Pope was elected for another two-year term in June.

The group, founded in 1923, is made up of both career and volunteer firefighters and serves as the voice of the fire service in Mississippi.

Pope said the group will have its Legislative agenda ready in October.

"We're just trying right now to gather information from our membership and from the fire services in the state, what are the matters affecting them now," said Pope. "Then we start trying to formulate that plan, working with our legislative partners to have that ready for January."

Pope has been a firefighter for 21 years and chief of the Collins Fire Department since 2006.
