COLLINS, MS (WDAM) - Some new fire trucks in Collins are helping that city maximize its firefighting capabilities, while minimizing the impact to taxpayers.
A 2000 model Pierce ladder truck just arrived in June.
It was purchased from a fire department in California for $80,000 with donated funds from two Collins businesses.
Another truck, an industrial foam pumper, is being custom-built in Florida.
It's price tag is $850,000 and is being bought with a grant from the Mississippi Development Authority.
"The (truck in Florida) is a complete custom build," said John Pope, chief of the Collins Fire Department. "We started from the ground up from the type of tire that's on the truck to the very tip top of what type of radio antenna is on top for the two-way communications, everything is customized."
The new foam pumper should be delivered in a few months.
