COLUMBIA, MS (WDAM) -

Columbia High School is hosting a meet and greet with the school's new principal, Braxton Stowe, Thursday evening in the school's cafeteria.

The event is meant to allow the public the opportunity to get to know the new principal.

“Parents, students, Business leaders, community leaders, we have a great high school and we want to make it even better," Stowe said. "We are going to need all the support, people supporting us to be one of the best high schools in Mississippi and also for the country."

Thursday's event will also allow Stowe to get to know the people of the community.

"Just the opportunity to meet the great people of this community," Stowe said. "It’s a wonderful community, I've gotten the chance to meet several folks so far."

Stowe is replacing Sheila Burbridge, who retired after serving as the school’s principal for 16 years.

“Education is my passion, I want to help our children succeed and make the community and Columbia better," Stowe said. "And I hope they get a chance to see that about me and continue to work together for the best of our students."

The event will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
