ELLISVILLE, MS (WDAM) - Five Jones County Junior College sports teams were recognized by the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges for overall academic excellence, including the Lady Bobcats soccer team, which was named Academic Team of the Year in that sport.

Head coach Dolores Dealey's team held a 3.47 grade-point average, tops in the state and fourth nationally. The Lady Bobcats soccer team also earned academic honorable mention Team of the Year honors from the National Junior College Athletic Association.

A quartet of Lady Bobcats, Carmin Childs  (Oak Grove), Aimee Dunn (Watford, England), Erica Gaddie (West Lauderdale) and Anna Brice Taylor (Sacred Heart) each earned 4.0 GPAs.

Four other JCJC teams earned MACJC academic honorable mention Team of the Year recognition.

Paced by 4.0 GPAs from sisters Ariada and Mieria Jordan (Spain), the women's tennis team held a 3.70 GPA to rank second among MACJC teams and third nationally.

The baseball team held a 3.31 GPA, which ranked fourth in the MACJC and 14th nationally. Four Bobcats, including brothers Ryne and Steven Sasser (South Jones), Payton Harris (Oak Grove) and Luke Hudson (Presbyterian Christian School) each had 4.0 GPAs.

The national champion softball team carded a 3.35 GPA, ranking seventh in the state and and 45th nationally. Sisters Breanna and Natilyn Hasty (Germantown), Bailey Gilbert (Sylva-Bay Academy) and Gracie McCleskey (Caledonia) each had 4.0 GPAs.

The men's tennis team finished with a 3.15 GPA, sixth among MACJC teams and 18th nationally. Connor Henderson (Petal) held a 4.0 GPA.
