The City of Jackson Department of Parks and Recreation hosted its 4th of July celebration Saturday evening.
The event took place at Smith-Wills stadium on Lakeland Drive.
The event featured fireworks, live music and dance performances. Mayor Chokwe Lumumba also came out to enjoy the festivities.
“I am really happy to be here on this beautiful June day in Jackson," said Mayor Lumumba. "And the kids their joy and their excitement. And we're happy about the parks and recreation and what they have done."
Across town in Ridgeland, the Barnett Reservoir Foundation also hosted its annual fireworks celebration.
Thousands of people lined up on both sides of the lake to watch not one, but two fireworks shows.
And if you were lucky enough to be on a boat, there was no better place to be.
Reservoir Police Chief Perry Waggoner said there is no better day than the fourth.
"It’s our nations independence day. It’s the birthday of the country," said Chief Waggoner. "It’s us you know. It’s us celebrating each other.”
The reservoir fireworks are fully funded by the Barnett Reservoir Foundation.
