LAUREL, MS - The National Urban Professional Baseball League in Laurel decided not to leave. It's just one day away from the tentative deadline they sent out in a notice saying they might have to leave due to lack of local sponsorships.

The coach, Michael E. Mayden, said they still need support, but they've been working with the Laurel Downtown Business Association. Mayden expects to meet with the mayor Monday to discuss more options to stay on the diamond.

Mayden said since more people know about the team, they've had luck with gaining some of the support they need.

"We're going to stay, take a week break in the schedule, regroup, and reorganize, and put those games back in the schedule," Mayden said.

Their All-Star weekend kicks off Friday, June 29th at 7 p.m. at Wooten Legion Field and continues into Saturday. Admission is $5 to raise money to support the team.
