JASPER COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - An arrest has been made in the shooting death of an 18-year-old killed just days before she was set to graduate from Laurel High School.
Jasper County Sheriff Randy Johnson said Dejuan Ladarius Parker, 19, has been charged with accessory after the fact of first-degree murder in connection to the death of Addie May.
May was killed in an early morning drive-by shooting on Saturday, May 19, 2018. She was set to walk across the stage and receive her diploma the following Tuesday.
Investigators said the shooting happened on Highway 11 just north of Heidelberg. May and two men, an 18-year-old and 19-year-old, were caught in the gunfire. May died at the scene. The men were treated for non-life threatening injuries.
Authorities have not yet identified a possible shooter or a motive for the crime.
The case continues to be investigated by the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation and Jasper County Sheriff's Department. Anyone with information that could help investigators should call the sheriff's department or Crime Stoppers.
