LAMAR COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - A Purvis woman was charged with murder Wednesday in the death of a Lamar County man found in a freezer.
Lamar County Sheriff Danny Rigel said Samantha Simmons, 32, was charged with the murder of 54-year-old Thomas Burns, who was found in a freezer inside his home on Purvis Oloh Road on Tuesday, May 22. Rigel said Burns died of asphyxiation.
Simmons was arrested and charged with grand larceny after Burns was found dead, and she was in custody when charged with murder.
Rigel said Burns was reported missing on May 21 and was found in the freezer a day later by a family member and neighbor.
Three other people were arrested in connection to the murder after items were stolen from the residence, according to Rigel.
- James Simmons, 59, of Purvis, was charged with two counts of grand larceny, as well as a probation violation.
- Andy Hartfield, 51, of Purvis, was charged with receiving stolen property
- Will Bryson, 23, of Purvis was charged with receiving stolen property
Rigel said the investigation is ongoing and further charges are pending.
