MISSISSIPPI (WDAM) - Whoever fills Rep. Gregg Harper's U.S. House District 3 seat when he steps away from Congress in January will be a Capitol Hill newcomer.

Democrat Michael Evans punched his ticket to run in November's general election by defeating Michael Aycox in Tuesday's primary.

The Republican side of the general election ballot is not so clear. The nomination will come down to a June 26 runoff between Michael Guest and Whit Hughes.

Guest, of Brandon, is the current District Attorney for Madison and Rankin counties. Learn more about Michael Guest.

Hughes, of Madison, is no stranger to politics in Mississippi. He previously served as finance director for Haley Barbour's successful run for governor in 2003. Learn more about Whit Hughes.
