A Hattiesburg organization is hoping a new music event will help revitalize a historic neighborhood near downtown.
The first Dabbs Street Music Festival was held Saturday on Dabbs Street. It featured eight musical acts, along with food and jewelry vendors.
It was organized by the Katie-John-Dabbs Street Neighborhood Association.
"We just wanted the people to get more involved with the community, get Dabbs Street back in focus again, that it was a business district and we're trying to promote that," said Robert Green, executive director of the Katie-John-Dabbs Street Neighborhood Association.
"It's bringing everybody together, it's a big community and it's fun for everybody," said Michael Ducksworth, a local resident who enjoyed the festival.
"I think it's going to help the community grow and help everybody to come together and have fun," said Jessica Nicks, of Gulfport, who also attended the festival.
The neighborhood association also hosts a similar festival in November.
