SMITH COUNTY, MS (WDAM) -
Funeral services were held Tuesday at the Smith County Multi-Purpose Building for Raleigh police Officer E. P. Morris. Morris was killed on May 17 when his patrol car left Highway 18 south of Raleigh and hit a tree.
Dozens of law enforcement officers from surrounding agencies joined family and friends at the memorial service, which was followed by a procession of law enforcement vehicles that served as an escort for Morris' burial at the Glenwood Cemetery in Yazoo City.
Raleigh Police Chief Terry Miller said Morris joined his department last October.
"Officer Morris was an excellent officer," said Miller. "He was really involved in the community, he really loved kids. He spent time in the schools and that's what we needed."
Morris is survived by his wife, a daughter, a son, three step-sons and 12 grandchildren.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
