SUMRALL, MS (WDAM) -

A Sumrall man pleaded guilty this month to the 2016 murder of 44-year-old Kimberly Lucus-Raynes.

District Attorney Hal Kittrell said Donald King Jr., 37, pleaded guilty to depraved heart murder. King was sentenced to serve 40 years in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections.

The investigation was launched two years ago after Lucus-Raynes was found dead outside a Sumrall home on May 18, 2016.

Autopsy results showed Lucus-Raynes died from a single gunshot wound.

King was arrested in July 2016 and charged with first-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

The case was investigated by the 15th Circuit Court District Attorney’s Office, Mississippi Bureau of Investigation, Lamar County Sheriff’s Department, Hattiesburg Police Department and the Sumrall Police Department.
