HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -
More than 150 people spent Saturday morning at Tatum Park, helping the Hattiesburg Police Department raise money for its benevolent fund.
They participated in the first "Blue Line Challenge."
It included a 5K race and a 5K obstacle course.
"This is one way that we thought, not only as a department, but as the benefit fund, to come together and involve the community and also, let them have a fun event that they could participate in," said Ryan Moore, public information officer for the Hattiesburg Police Department.
"It's for a great cause," said Lindy Farve, a participant in the event. "You can't beat raising money for these officers who keep us safe and put their lives on the line for us every day."
Farve's brother-in-law is a Hattiesburg police officer.
Organizers said more than $10,000 was raised during the event.
