Richton students bring home wins from robotics championship

RICHTON, MS (WDAM) - A passion for STEM related subjects got two Richton students a world title in a robotics competition.

These two students said few people had ever heard of Richton at the U.S. Open Robotics Championship in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

After coming home with wins in the competition of 140 teams from the U.S. and China, they changed that.

Working together now for three years, the two took the Team Driving Award and the Skills Award. They said not only is building the blocks of technology fun, but it's a passion for them.

The team said they got close in the years before, but this time, they had a game plan.

They are now ranked ninth in the world standings and are the top driver skills team in the United States.
