HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - The Hattiesburg Tigers baseball team is returning to Pearl on Tuesday to take on the Lewisburg Patriots for the class 5A State Championship.

Last year, the Tigers came up short on reaching the state championship, falling to Pearl River Central in the third round. This time around, the Tigers are looking to redeem themselves and capture their first state championship since 2006.

"It wasn't a good feeling leaving that stadium," said Hattiesburg senior Dexter Jordan. "We had our heads down but eventually we picked them up. Now we're back. Now is our time to prove that we should be there."

"We've seen really good competition all year," said Hattiesburg head coach Joe Hartfield. "Nothing's going to surprise us, nothing's going to be intimidating. We know that we're about to play a really good team but we've seen good baseball year. We just want to keep playing good baseball ourselves."

Last week, the Tigers defeated West Jones in the 5A South State Title game to advance to this point. Now, they are looking to carry over that momentum into tonight's match-up to set the tone for this series.

Game 1 will start tonight at 7 p.m., Game 2 will be Thursday at 1 p.m. and, if necessary, Game 3 will be Saturday. Admission tickets are $13.
