William Carey baseball wins on walk-off; softball shuts out Truett McConnell

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - In William Carey's 2017 NAIA World Series run, the Crusaders won a number of games in walk-off fashion during the opening round at Milton Wheeler Field.

Carey got back to its walk-off ways in the first game of the 2018 NAIA national tournament.

Caleb Ledet drew a bases loaded walk in the bottom of the tenth inning to walk in Purvis native Spencer Cayten for the game-winning run in the Crusaders' 11-10 win over LSU-Shreveport.

William Carey's win earned them a second game on Monday night against No. 1 seed St. Thomas. The Bobcats bullied the Crusaders en route to a 8-2 win just before the clock struck midnight in Hattiesburg.

Meanwhile, William Carey softball beat Truett McConnell College 5-0 in its first game of the NAIA opening round.

Hannah Moak threw a two-hit shutout for the Lady Crusaders.

Carey will play No. 1 seed Indiana Wesleyan on Tuesday at 11 a.m.
